A few years back, my housemate left her fridge door open when she went to work. She didn’t want everyone in the house to see what she was storing in there. It was like she knew I loved food and would constantly look down her own side of the fridge to check if her meals were fresh and ready for us to eat. This has been a common theme ever since. As much as I love being home alone, it’s not always easy when you have a crowd of roommates over and other people are making noise outside your front door. My friends and family are used to my playing the grumpy home-alone game but this is the first time they’ve actually seen me cry because of it. I even had one family member joke that they’d rather I wasn’t home alone than be nice to them because they could hear me crying upstairs in my room! But it wasn’t just them; my pastimes have changed too. When we lived with others, having a lot of company around all night made me feel more like a guest at someone else's house than an actual host, which is why I switched flats ages ago already! Anyone who has ever lived in a small apartment knows how difficult it can be to store things.
